Bonfire Guidance


  1. Make sure all materials will burn quickly and are dry to limit smoke
  2. Keep the bonfire small to restrict burning time
  3. Check weather conditions to ensure the smoke does not blow directly into neighbouring properties
  4. Avoid burning at weekends and bank holidays when people may be out in their gardens
  5. Check for small animals before lighting
  6. Burn only organic material produced on site.
  7. Compost as much as possible
  8. Consider taking material to be recycled instead.
  9. Burn all diseased material.


  1. Start a bonfire with petrol etc.
  2. Leave a bonfire unattended.
  3. Light a fire when air quality is poor
